All the work at Flamborough Bird Observatory is undertaken by a team of dedicated volunteers. By becoming a member, you’ll be helping to fund a vital series of conservation projects, contribute to the daily recording effort and aid the production of the Annual Report. In return, you’ll receive a range of benefits, including:

Free copy of the Bird Report – published in full-colour and summarises the annual pattern of records for every species occurring on the Headland. It contains a gallery of stunning photographs and features artwork from a range of the UK’s leading bird artists.

Regular newsletters.

Access to the photographic hide at Thornwick Pools.

Optional Whatsapp messages to ensure you hear about scarcities as soon as they are found.

The chance to volunteer in an exciting ranges of tasks with like-minded people who are all determined to establish Flamborough as one of the UK’s premier birding sites.

In addition, 33% of your membership fee is ring-fenced for vitally-important conservation work. The latest such project has created one of the largest wetlands on the Flamborough Headland at Thornwick Pool.

If you are 13-17 years old, FBO are offering you free membership to the observatory .

With this you will receive the same ‘electronic’ package as our normal membership i.e. email updates, newsletters and access to the WhatsApp Group for all the latest sightings.

Find out about how Observatory work is carried out, find a mentor to help develop your fieldcraft and identification of birds.
You will also be able to take part in such things as conservation work to help create habitat on the headland or ringing of birds.
All of these could help bolster your CV if looking at a career in conservation.
